WILLEMSTAD - Damen Shipyards has signed an agreement with Colombia to provide technical support for the construction of a frigate for the Colombian Navy.
According to Damen, Colombia is now the third country in Latin America, following Mexico and Brazil, to be capable of building such advanced naval ships under license in its own shipyards.
"This project represents a significant investment in local employment and the technological advancement of Colombia's maritime sector, which, in turn, boosts the national economy," Damen stated. The frigate will measure 107.5 meters in length and over 14 meters in width.
Damen operates globally and has established several subsidiaries in Curaçao since 2016, including Damen Dock Curaçao, Damen Services Curaçao, and Damen Shiprepair Curaçao.
The contract was signed in the port city of Cartagena, Colombia.
