Daaibooi Beach Restaurant Loses Court Case Against Ministry of Economic Development

WILLEMSTAD – The Daaibooi Beach Restaurant has lost its injunction against the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) over a dispute with the fishermen’s cooperative KPD. The restaurant operators had demanded that the ministry revoke or more strictly enforce KPD’s license, arguing that the cooperative’s activities negatively impact their business.

According to the restaurant, the fishermen engage in practices such as renting out beach chairs, erecting structures on the beach, disregarding permit conditions, and selling competing products. These activities, they claim, directly undermine their operations.

The court, however, ruled that the cooperative has held a valid permit since March 2023. Recent inspections revealed no violations of the license terms, although inspectors did note an excessive number of unregulated beach chairs. MEO has pledged to address that issue.

The judge concluded that there was no urgent reason to revoke KPD’s permit at this time. As a result, the restaurant must wait for the outcome of the main legal proceedings before any further action can be taken.
