WILLEMSTAD - Awareness of cybersecurity was a key topic at the Cyber Security Seminar 2024, held this month as part of International Cybersecurity Month. The event took place at the Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort and aimed to raise awareness and encourage organizations to take concrete actions regarding cyber safety.
For the second consecutive year, the Regulatory Authority of Curaçao (RAC) and CARICERT organized the seminar in collaboration with the Ministry of Traffic, Transport, and Spatial Planning.
The seminar attracted representatives from various sectors, including Curaçao Medical Center and Aqualectra, who shared the latest insights and strategies in cybersecurity.
Charles Cooper, Minister of VVRP, opened the seminar, emphasizing the systematic importance of strategic cooperation with expert partners to bolster Curaçao's cyber resilience.
“It is not a question of if a cyber threat will occur, but when,” stated Curt Belfor, director of the RAC, setting the tone for the discussions.
A significant focus of the seminar was the establishment of a national Cyber Security Taskforce. Elgeline Martis, head of RAC/CARICERT, warned of the increasing threat of ransomware and stressed that proactive measures are essential for protecting organizations.
“The RAC, CARICERT, and the government remain committed to developing robust cybersecurity strategies, both locally and regionally,” the organization affirmed.
