WILLEMSTAD - During an intensive inspection at the airport of Curaçao, customs officers discovered a passenger attempting to enter Curaçao with a substantial number of medicines in their luggage.
Spokesperson Luthsel Lourens from the Curaçao customs stated that the case drew attention not only because of the quantity of medicines but also because they were well concealed within various items and packaging.
According to Lourens, this alone was enough to suggest that it was an illegal situation. The spokesperson explained that over time, customs has learned which countries pose risks regarding the illegal import of medicines or supplements.
"Of course, we must consider that it is not always possible to conduct 100% inspections on all high-risk flights. In this regard, customs collaborate with the Health Inspection," says Lourens.
Lourens emphasizes that it is essential to mention that the inspections at the airport's arrival hall are not solely focused on tax collection.
