Curom Broadcasting officially bankrupt

Local | By Correspondent March 11, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The court in Willemstad declared Curom Broadcasting NV bankrupt. Attorney-at-law Ms. Barbara Nagelmakers is handling the debt settlement of the old radio station. Creditors are instructed to report to her.

As previously known, Curom, which includes Z-86 and Mi95, has not paid its employees since July of last year. After waiting for several months, some employees decided to leave, while another group remained loyal to director Orlando Cuales.

These promises were postponed month after month until the bankruptcy process began in court. On March 8, the court announced that Curom Broadcasting NV had been declared bankrupt.

For many, it marks a sad end for one of the oldest radio stations in Curaçao. Well-known presenters and editors have built their careers at this station.

The station has been off the air for some time, but in recent weeks, it has been back on the air with music only. What this exactly means has not been confirmed, but it seems that if the station goes off the air, Mr. Cuales could lose the right to the radio frequency in Curaçao. Curom Broadcasting NV, known as a pioneer in radio broadcasting, has been in existence for 90 years.
