Curom bankrupt, end of Z86 and Mi95

Local | By Correspondent December 27, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Curom Broadcasting, known for the radio stations Z86 and Mi95, was declared bankrupt by the court. This unexpected news has led to the immediate cessation of broadcasts on both Z86 and Mi95.

Curom Broadcasting, which celebrated its 90th anniversary at the beginning of this year, started broadcasting in 1933. The bankruptcy affects both mentioned stations, as 88Rockòrsou has been operating independently and is no longer part of Curom.

Financial Problems

Curom had been facing financial difficulties for some time, especially in meeting its obligations to its employees.

Two months ago, it was already visible on social media that Curom's building on Kaya Grandi in Otrobanda was being offered for sale by a real estate agent.

The inevitable bankruptcy pronounced by the court has resulted in the immediate end of broadcasts for the two radio stations.

This development marks a somber end for a historic broadcasting organization in Curaçao, which was once a pioneer in local radio broadcasts. The disappearance of Z86 and Mi95, according to experts, leaves a gap in the radio landscape of Curaçao.
