WILLEMSTAD – The newly renovated traffic park in Damacor is exploring a potential collaboration with the traffic garden of Plaswijckpark in Rotterdam. The initiative is part of a broader ambition to enhance traffic education for children on Curaçao and further modernize the local park.
During a recent working visit to the Netherlands, Minister Shalten Hato of Governance, Planning, and Public Services (BPD) toured the Rotterdam facility. There, he met with the chair of the supervisory board and the director of Plaswijckpark to discuss the possibility of forming a strategic alliance aimed at exchanging knowledge and expertise to support the continued development of the Damacor traffic park.
Curaçao’s traffic park underwent a complete renovation last year—the first in nearly 40 years—thanks to funding from the government and contributions from various non-governmental organizations. The park officially reopened with a renewed focus on child-friendly, interactive learning.
Traffic education remains the park’s core mission. By introducing children to road safety and traffic rules through play, the park aims to instill responsible behavior from a young age. The proposed partnership with Plaswijckpark aligns with this vision and could provide valuable insights to help Curaçao’s facility evolve and meet modern educational standards.
