Curaçao’s Pro Bista Nominated for Prestigious Dutch Award "Appeltje van Oranje"

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçaoan foundation Pro Bista, which supports individuals with visual impairments, has been announced as one of ten finalists for the 2025 Appeltje van Oranje award, a prestigious honor presented by the Oranje Fonds in the Netherlands. 

This year's theme, “Essential Links, highlights organizations that serve as vital connectors between municipalities, care institutions, and volunteer groups. Pro Bista has been recognized for its key role in bridging these networks in Curaçao. 

From a total of 348 submissions, a record 77,000 public votes were cast, leading to a longlist of 50 organizations. After two pitch days—one held on Curaçao and another in Groenekan, the Netherlands—the Oranje Fonds selected 10 finalists, including Pro Bista and Aruba’s Fundacion Telefon pa Hubentud. 

Final Ceremony at the Royal Palace 

On Thursday, October 9, three winners will be honored at Paleis Noordeinde in The Hague, where Queen Máxima will personally present the awards. Each winner receives a bronze statuette crafted by Princess Beatrix and a €25,000 cash prize to support their work. 

The nomination is a major achievement for Pro Bista, shining a spotlight on their dedication to empowering people with visual impairments and reinforcing their role in the island’s social support system.
