WILLEMSTAD - The request for a question hour regarding the plan for Caracasbaai has been rejected by the Parliament's chairman, who deemed the topic not urgent. This decision has caused outrage from PAR parliamentarian Steven Croes.
According to Croes, Caracasbaai is a beloved spot where people come to relax and exercise. On weekends, it attracts families and friends en masse, and during the week, many come to swim and engage in other physical activities.
Steven Croes reacted strongly to the plan: “When I saw the presented plan, my first reaction was outrage and then anger. How can such a beautiful part of our island lose its identity to concrete blocks? I support development, healthy recreation, and nature, but I see no progress in this plan.”
For this reason, Croes submitted a request for a question hour. This is a special session where parliamentarians can ask questions to the responsible minister, intended to provide transparency to the public.
One of the requirements for a question hour is that the topic must be relevant and current. According to Croes, this topic meets these criteria, given the extensive media coverage and numerous reactions on social media and within the community. Nonetheless, the request was rejected by the Parliament's chairman, who ruled that the topic was not urgent or relevant enough.
