Curaçao's Parliament May Temporarily Relocate Due to Planned Construction at Wilhelmina Square

Local | By Correspondent March 5, 2025

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao's Parliament may need to temporarily relocate due to upcoming construction works at Wilhelmina Square. This was announced last week during a meeting of the Temporary Committee for New Parliament Building.

The Common Court of Justice has revealed plans for a renovation that will involve the removal of the current entrance used by Parliament. As a result, the Parliament will need to find alternative accommodations for meetings, parliamentary offices, and staff.

The New Parliament Building Committee is currently exploring potential locations in the city center. At the same time, discussions about a permanent solution remain ongoing, with options including the renovation of the existing building or constructing a new facility elsewhere in the city center.

The relocation is expected to occur between the second half of this year and 2027. The Parliament must make a decision on temporary accommodation and the continued progress of the construction plans before the end of the month.
