WILLEMSTAD – Javier Silvania, the Minister of Finance for Curaçao, announced today on his Facebook page that Kunuku Man, the environmental activist, will receive a subsidy of 23,000 guilders for the purchase of a truck. In his post, the minister included the phrase "our heart also beats for Kunuku Man," referencing a slogan frequently used by his political party, MFK.
Kunuku Man is the pseudonym of Frans van der Post, who has been working for years with a group of volunteers to clean up waste left behind by others. Van der Post has become a symbol of environmental activism on the island, dedicating his time to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment for Curaçao.
In recognition of his efforts, Van der Post was awarded the MCB Prize late last year for his continuous commitment to keeping the island clean. The truck will assist Kunuku Man and his team in their ongoing environmental work.
