Curaçao's hospitality industry loses ties with KHN Netherlands

Local | By Correspondent November 26, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - As of January 1, the Curaçao hospitality industry will officially sever its ties with Koninklijke Horeca Nederland (KHN). This decision follows an evaluation in which the financial results of the partnership were deemed insufficient by the KHN members' council. As a result, the membership of Curaçao's hospitality businesses with KHN will come to an end.

The collaboration between the Curaçao Restaurant Association (CRA) and KHN began in 2022 with the establishment of a KHN branch on the island. It was agreed at the outset that the partnership would be evaluated after two years. Based on this evaluation, KHN decided not to continue the partnership. The CRA has made several attempts to contact KHN to discuss this decision, but these efforts have been unsuccessful.

Continuity

While the CRA regrets the decision, it emphasizes that it has been actively representing the hospitality sector since 2007 and will continue to advocate for the interests of the industry in Curaçao. “It is crucial that we collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure continuity and a smooth transition,” said the CRA board.

The organization states that its focus will remain on strengthening the Curaçao hospitality sector, rather than on restarting the relationship with KHN. “We want to establish clear agreements on how the CRA will continue to fully represent the sector.”

Collaboration

The CRA remains open to further discussions with KHN, especially to continue sharing knowledge and expertise. The interests of the hospitality industry in Curaçao and maintaining the relationship with KHN are central to these conversations.

The CRA calls on all involved parties to work together to find solutions to the significant challenges facing the hospitality sector on the island. “Collaboration between all parties is essential to ensure stability and growth in the sector,” said the CRA.
