WILLEMSTAD - The previously calculated financial surplus of 142 million guilders for the year 2022, as determined by the Curaçao government, has vanished into thin air. The latest report released to the College of Financial Supervision (Cft) reveals that the final result is a mere 17 million guilders. The cause: unforeseen accrued expenses.
A similar scenario could unfold for the year 2023. The projected surplus for the first 6 months, amounting to 113 million guilders, significantly exceeds the budgeted 65 million guilders. However, the anticipated surplus for the entire year 2023 is a modest 3 million guilders. The Cft suggests that this needs to be adjusted: Curaçao should be able to retain 40 to 60 million guilders by the end of the year.
