PACIFIC OCEAN - Bruce Brandt, originally from Curaçao, claims to be the first Curaçaoan to descend to a depth of 10,078 meters below sea level in the Pacific Ocean. This remarkable achievement took place during a scientific expedition in the deepest part of the Pacific. Brandt, a certified submarine pilot, made the dive using a Triton submarine. During the ten-hour dive, data was collected, and unique footage was captured of the ocean floor and the fauna living at such depths, as announced this weekend.

Bruce Brandt was trained in automotive engineering in the Netherlands. He then worked for more than ten years as a commercial diver with Miami Diver. In 2008, he joined Curaçao Sea Aquarium, where, together with owner Adriaan 'Dutch' Schrier, he helped establish Substation Curaçao and specialized in the field. For almost fifteen years, the CuraSub submarine has been used daily there for both tourism and scientific research.
