Curaçaoan Artist Kevin Osepa Nominated for Prestigious Prix de Rome Visual Arts 2025

WILLEMSTAD, AMSTERDAM – Curaçaoan artist Kevin Osepa has been named one of the four finalists for the 2025 Prix de Rome Visual Arts, the Netherlands' most prestigious prize for emerging visual artists. The Mondriaan Fund announced the shortlist today.

As a nominee, Osepa will receive a production budget to create new work over the coming months. The results of this work will be showcased at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, starting Saturday, November 29, 2025. Based on the final exhibition, the jury will select the winner, who will receive a cash prize of €60,000.

Born in Curaçao in 1994, Kevin Osepa lives and works between Amsterdam and Curaçao. He is known for his powerful work as a visual artist and filmmaker, exploring themes such as Afro-Caribbean spirituality, identity, and colonial memory—often from a personal and queer perspective. His practice blends photography, video, and installations to breathe new life into forgotten knowledge and ancestral rituals.

The jury praised Osepa for the way he "not only reveals the legacy of colonialism through his unique lens, but transcends it,” highlighting the depth and originality of his artistic vision.

Osepa’s nomination places Curaçao once again on the map of contemporary international art, underscoring the global resonance of Caribbean narratives and creative expression.
