WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao is making a new attempt to persuade the Netherlands to transfer some of its previously granted loans at a lower interest rate.
The Pisas cabinet has submitted a request to this effect to the State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Van Huffelen. It is proposed to refinance loans contracted in the period 2010-2014 at an interest rate higher than 2.45% at an interest rate of 1.82%. That saves Curaçao almost 19 million guilders annually in interest costs.
Earlier this year, The Hague rejected a similar request because Curaçao's financial management is not in order.
