WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government wants to introduce a diving tax. On an annual basis, this would generate up to nine million guilders in revenue.
An example is a+ levy on Bonaire, where such a tax is already collected. It is called 'Nature Fee' there and has to be paid before you can dive there. The fee costs $40 a year, but residents of the neighboring islands do not have to pay it.
Not only a new diving tax is being considered, but also an increase in the room tax for rentals. It is now seven percent, but should eventually rise to nine percent.
