Curaçao wants to help Suriname with future oil and gas exploration

Local | By Correspondent November 28, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas of Curaçao has reached out to Suriname to help with the processing of future oil and gas exploration. The Curaçao oil refinery could be suitable for this and also has the required capacity.

Pisas had a bilateral meeting with Surinamese President Chan Santokhi last week. The Prime Minister was in Suriname to attend the Independence Day celebrations which took place on November 25.

The conversation follows on from an earlier meeting in New York in September at the UN meeting that both heads of government attended.

Curaçao is also looking forward to support from Suriname for planting and growing food on the island, reports the Cabinet of the President of Suriname.

Santhoki is now also chairman of the Caribbean Community CARICOM. An appeal has been made to him to admit the three countries of the Antillean islands as associate members of the CARICOM.
