WILLEMSTAD - Next week, Curaçao will officially become an associated member of Caricom, the Caribbean Community. This significant step is set to take place during the 47th meeting of Caricom heads of government, scheduled from July 28 to 30 in Grenada.
Caricom, similar to the European Union, was established to promote integration within the region. The upcoming conference will feature speeches from Secretary-General Carla Barnett, outgoing Chair Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and the newly elected Chair Dickon Mitchell.
Caricom comprises 15 member countries, and the Conference of Heads of Government serves as its highest decision-making body, meeting twice a year at the level of heads of state.
Curaçao's accession is anticipated to enhance cooperation and collaboration within the Caribbean region, marking a new chapter in the island's international relations.
