WILLEMSTAD – Fresh off its historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Curaçao is set to host an international Legends Football Tournament that will bring some of the biggest names and nations in football to the island.
The two-day event, scheduled for April 9 and 10, 2026, will transform Curaçao into a global football stage, featuring legendary players representing countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, the Netherlands, Portugal, and host nation Curaçao.
This year’s edition introduces two new football powerhouses to the tournament. Italy will participate for the first time, adding one of the sport’s most decorated nations to the lineup. Spain also joins the competition, bringing its distinctive football philosophy that has influenced the modern game worldwide.
The tournament gains further prominence with the confirmed participation of Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho, whose presence is expected to draw international attention and elevate the event’s profile.
Matches will be played in a fast-paced format, consisting of two halves of 15 minutes each, with a short five-minute break. Each evening will feature eight matches in a group stage structure.
Group A will include Curaçao, Spain, Brazil, and the Netherlands, while Group B features Argentina, Colombia, Italy, and Portugal. The top two teams from each group will advance to the finals on April 10.
The event comes at a time when football enthusiasm on the island is at an all-time high, following Curaçao’s qualification for the World Cup as the smallest nation ever to reach the tournament.
Organizers expect strong local and international interest, as the island continues to position itself as a destination for high-profile sporting events in the Caribbean.
