Curaçao to Host Global Ombudsman Summit in 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao has been selected to host the International Ombudsman Institute’s (IOI) global board meeting in May 2026. The announcement was confirmed during the IOI's recent board session held in Morocco, where Curaçao’s Ombudsman Keursly Concincion represented the Caribbean and Latin America as regional president.

The high-level meeting in Morocco focused on several critical topics, including growing threats to the independence of ombudsman institutions, the admission of new members, and the implementation of the Venice Principles — a set of international standards for ombudsman bodies. The board emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among the IOI’s 205 member institutions worldwide.

As part of the event, Concincion also signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Ombudsman of Ontario, Canada. This partnership aims to promote knowledge exchange and strengthen adherence to international norms and best practices in the field of public accountability and citizens' rights.

Hosting the IOI board meeting positions Curaçao at the center of global discussions on good governance and institutional independence, reinforcing its commitment to international standards and regional leadership.
