WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao is getting a second crematorium. Funeral company El Tributo announced, during its 80th anniversary, that it will soon open a second, entirely new and technologically advanced crematorium.
El Tributo has long wished for its own crematorium, in addition to the existing Crefona crematorium in Brievengat. The first request for a new facility dates back to before 2010.

The new crematorium is planned for the Jan Noorduynweg, between Botika Piscadera and the University. The old but renovated UTS building located there will become the headquarters of El Tributo.
On March 16, El Tributo will organize an Open Day in Otrobanda to introduce people to the cremation process. This day is open to everyone.
El Tributo also revealed that it will host special events as part of its 80th anniversary. These include the seminar "Honrando Bida i bo Salú Mental" on March 2, focusing on the importance of life and mental health. Psychologists Rodney Steward and Verda Betrian will give lectures during this seminar.
Throughout the year, workshops will be held on the theme "Renew Your Source of Mental Health," targeting various groups within the community.
