Curaçao Students Concerned About U.S. Visa Process, But SSC Urges Calm

WILLEMSTAD – With the new academic year approaching, students from Curaçao planning to study in the United States are expressing growing concern over visa procedures and admission requirements. These concerns follow recent policy changes in the U.S., sparking uncertainty among prospective international students.

However, according to Sidney Justiana, director of the Curaçao Student Financing Foundation (SSC), there is no need for panic—as long as students adhere to the established procedures. “If students are well-prepared and follow the process correctly, there should be no issues,” he emphasized.

SSC recently held discussions with the U.S. Consul General, during which it was confirmed that current Curaçaoan students are not facing any major problems. For new applicants, however, thorough preparation remains essential.

Despite this reassurance, worries persist regarding tuition fees. Not all American universities currently recognize the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that grants Curaçaoan students access to reduced tuition rates. This has led to financial uncertainties for some families.

In response, SSC stated it is actively engaging in ongoing talks with both universities and U.S. authorities to explore viable solutions.

“We urge parents and students to maintain confidence in the process,” said Justiana. “Even though the situation can at times be frustrating, SSC is committed to guiding them every step of the way.”
