Curaçao signs Cartagena Agreement for responsible AI

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao, along with sixteen other countries from Latin America and the Caribbean, has signed the Cartagena Agreement. This treaty focuses on collaboration in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and promotes the ethical, safe, inclusive, and efficient use of AI. 

The agreement marks a significant step for Curaçao and the other participating countries in their pursuit of progress in AI. The treaty was signed on behalf of Curaçao by Sithree van Heydoorn (MFK), the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (OWCS). 

A key objective of the agreement is to foster cooperation and consensus on AI developments and to support the United Nations' development goals. 

The treaty also emphasizes the importance of improving education and knowledge in digital technology and AI. Additionally, the signatories agreed to develop and use AI in public administration with a focus on human rights, particularly the protection of personal data.
