SANTO DOMINGO – Minister of Economic Development Dr. Roderick Middelhof is exploring new opportunities to expand Curaçao’s export sector and strengthen international business prospects for local companies through closer cooperation with the Dominican Republic.
During a recent working visit to the Dominican Republic, Middelhof met with representatives of ProDominicana, the government agency responsible for promoting exports, foreign investment, and international business opportunities for the Caribbean nation.
The discussions focused on creating new pathways for Curaçaoan manufacturers and exporters to access international markets. According to the Ministry of Economic Development, ProDominicana expressed its willingness to make its expertise, network, and promotional platforms available to support Curaçaoan businesses seeking to expand beyond the local market.

The meeting also explored the possibility of establishing a formal cooperation agreement between Curaçao and the Dominican Republic. Such an agreement would be aimed at strengthening trade relations, facilitating business development, and creating new commercial opportunities for entrepreneurs in both countries.
Officials believe the partnership could help local businesses gain greater exposure in international markets while encouraging increased economic cooperation throughout the Caribbean region.
The Dominican Republic has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the Caribbean and Latin America, with strong export sectors in manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, and logistics. Its established trade promotion infrastructure is seen as a potential gateway for Curaçaoan companies looking to expand their reach internationally.
According to the ministry, the initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to diversify Curaçao’s economy, strengthen the island’s export capacity, and create new growth opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
“Through initiatives such as these, Curaçao continues to take concrete steps to strengthen its export sector and increase the international visibility of our businesses, products, and services,” the ministry stated.
The visit follows a series of meetings held by Minister Middelhof in the Dominican Republic focused on trade, tourism, free zones, and economic cooperation between the two countries.
