Curaçao Returns to the Gold Cup but Faces Tough Group Stage Draw

Local | By Correspondent March 27, 2025

WILLEMSTAD Curaçao is set to make its return to the prestigious Gold Cup, but the team has been placed in the lowest-ranked pot for the tournament draw. This positioning increases the likelihood that Curaçao will face some of the tournament’s strongest teams in the group stage.

The draw for the 2025 Gold Cup is scheduled to take place on April 10, with 16 nations set to compete. The organizing football federation confirmed this week that teams such as Guatemala, Guadeloupe, Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname have secured qualification through recent matches. They join Mexico, Canada, Panama, the United States, El Salvador, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Saudi Arabia, and Curaçao, which had either pre-qualified or received an invitation to the tournament.

The draw will divide the teams into four groups, with Mexico leading Group A, Canada Group B, Panama Group C, and the United States Group D. The 16 participating nations will be placed into four seeding pots based on their rankings. The highest-ranked teams will be placed in Pot 1, while the lowest-ranked teams, including Curaçao, will be in Pot 4.

Curaçao shares Pot 4 with Guadeloupe, the Dominican Republic, and Saudi Arabia. As a result, the team could be drawn into a group featuring top-tier opponents, making their path to the knockout stage more challenging. The upcoming draw will determine just how tough their journey in the 2025 Gold Cup will be.
