Curaçao Renews Strategic Port Cooperation Agreement with Dominican Republic at Seatrade Cruise Global

WILLEMSTAD The Curaçao Port Authority (CPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to regional maritime development by renewing its cooperation agreement with the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) during the prestigious Seatrade Cruise Global fair held in Miami this week.

The updated three-year agreement, signed by APORDOM Executive Director Jean Luis Rodríguez and representatives of CPA, strengthens ties between the two island nations and paves the way for deeper technical and commercial collaboration in the port sector. Curaçao aims to use this renewed partnership to share knowledge on port operations, implement best practices in efficiency and safety, and jointly explore new business opportunities within the maritime and cruise industries.

A key focus of the agreement is to boost regional tourism by developing joint cruise itinerary packages, linking Curaçao with Dominican ports to attract more cruise lines and tourists to the Caribbean.

“This agreement supports Curaçao’s vision of regional integration and long-term growth in both cargo and cruise sectors,” said a CPA spokesperson. “By aligning with APORDOM, we’re not only sharing expertise but also strengthening our position in the Caribbean’s maritime economy.”

In addition to the Curaçao partnership, APORDOM also signed a five-year agreement with the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP), aimed at enhancing cooperation in logistics and maritime trade. Both agreements include the formation of technical working groups, joint participation in international maritime forums, and collaborative training programs to develop human capital across the port industry.

The Curaçao-Dominican Republic agreement reflects ongoing efforts by CPA to solidify Curaçao’s role as a key maritime hub in the southern Caribbean.
