Curaçao Reaches Milestone with Over 3,000 Dogs Sterilized

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) has proudly announced that more than 3,000 dogs have been sterilized as part of an ongoing effort to combat the problem of abandoned and neglected animals on the island.

The milestone is seen as a major step forward in improving animal welfare in Curaçao. Through the Animal Welfare project, the ministry, volunteer veterinarians, and partners such as Rescue Paws and Dierenhulp have worked together to set up a sterilization program aimed at reducing the number of unwanted dogs.

According to the ministry, this initiative not only contributes to a healthier dog population but also promotes a better balance between people and animals within the community.

Minister of GMN, Javier Silvania, expressed pride in the achievement: “Each sterilized dog means fewer strays on the streets and greater well-being for both the animals and the community. Our joint efforts are bearing fruit.”

He also called on the public to continue taking advantage of the free sterilization program and to play an active role in supporting animal welfare across Curaçao.
