Curaçao prepares for monkeypox

Local | By Correspondent August 16, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The World Health Organization (WHO) declared Mpox, also known as monkeypox, an international emergency on Wednesday. The Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) in Curaçao announced that the Public Health Service is preparing to monitor and control the situation.

Mpox can be dangerous, with more fatal cases already reported this year compared to last year. "It is important that countries closely monitor Mpox cases and ensure the disease does not spread," stated the WHO. The warning from WHO is the highest level of alert that can be issued.

GMN is advising general practitioners, specialists, and laboratories in Curaçao to collaborate effectively to prevent and manage Mpox. The ministry will keep the public informed about the Mpox situation on the island and the measures being taken to control the disease.
