WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Police have reported a rise in the theft of commercial vehicles, including pickups, vans, trailers, and Caddy-type vehicles. The Vehicle Theft Unit is urging owners to be extra vigilant and take precautionary measures to protect their property.
Police are calling on business owners and private individuals who own one or more of these vehicles to secure them properly. Authorities recommend installing security devices, parking in well-lit areas with surveillance cameras, and, whenever possible, keeping vehicles in locked or enclosed spaces.
End-of-Year Precautions
According to police, there are indications that criminals are preparing for the end-of-year period, when thefts and burglaries typically increase.
“It is possible that offenders are stealing these vehicles to use them in break-ins or to transport large and valuable goods,” the police stated.
Law enforcement agencies have pledged to remain on high alert and are paying extra attention to cargo vehicles driving at night or in the early morning hours as part of increased surveillance efforts.
