Curaçao Police Trained in Advanced Geographic Profiling to Solve Crimes Faster

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police Force has strengthened its investigative capabilities with the introduction of Geographic Profiling, a cutting-edge technique that helps predict the likely location of a suspect based on the geographic pattern of crimes.

Over the past twelve days, police personnel underwent intensive training in this method, which is particularly effective in cases involving serial crimes such as burglaries, sexual offenses, arson, and violent robberies. By analyzing the specific locations where these offenses occur, investigators can develop a profile indicating where a suspect likely lives, works, or frequently visits.

The training was part of a wider initiative by the Curaçao Police Corps, in collaboration with the Board of Police Chiefs of the four Caribbean police forces within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Similar training sessions have already been held in Aruba and Sint Maarten, and will soon be conducted on Bonaire.

The course was led by Bert Adriaens, an internationally recognized expert in Geographic Profiling, who brings extensive practical and training experience. His instruction equips officers with the skills to interpret crime data spatially and convert those insights into concrete investigative strategies.

According to organizers, the training enhances the effective deployment of investigative resources and increases the likelihood of identifying and arresting suspects.

“Thanks to this training, Curaçao has become a safer place — at least, not for those who break the law,” the police stated at the conclusion of the program.
