WILLEMSTAD – The Bike Team of the Curaçao Police Force has received 12 new bicycles to enhance patrol operations in Willemstad’s city center. The bikes were specially imported to improve mobility and help officers respond more efficiently to incidents in the area.
According to Police Chief Raymond Ellis, the Bike Team has already proven to be an effective presence on the streets, allowing for quicker responses in emergency situations.
Advantages of Bike Patrols
Ellis highlighted several benefits of using bicycles in police work. “Officers can maneuver more easily in areas with restricted vehicle access and reach locations that are difficult for larger patrol cars. Additionally, the visible presence of the Bike Team fosters stronger connections with the community,” he explained. Beyond operational advantages, the bicycles also contribute to environmental sustainability and lower fuel costs.
The police force believes that the new bikes will play a key role in crime prevention, particularly in combating street robberies and petty crimes. “Having officers on bicycles should have a deterrent effect and increase the overall sense of security in the community,” the force stated.
The Bike Team operates throughout Willemstad, covering key districts such as Otrobanda, Punda, Pietermaai, Scharloo, and Bapor Kibra.
