WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is taking part this week in the Global Sustainable Islands Summit 2026 in Gran Canaria, where island states and international partners are meeting to address sustainable development and economic resilience.

The summit brings together policymakers, businesses, and experts to explore solutions for the unique challenges faced by island economies, including climate change, limited scale, and vulnerability to external shocks.

During the conference, Curaçao is contributing to discussions on attracting investment for climate and energy projects. The delegation is specifically participating in a session focused on mobilizing capital for the energy transition in island regions.

In addition, Curaçao is engaged in talks on economic diversification, with emphasis on strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises and developing sustainable growth models for the future.

According to Vanessa Toré, representing Curaçao at the summit, improving the investment climate and promoting export-driven growth are key priorities. She noted that these efforts are essential to reduce economic dependence and enhance resilience against global economic fluctuations.

The participation underscores Curaçao’s efforts to position itself within international discussions on sustainability, while seeking practical strategies to support long-term economic stability and development.
