WILLEMSTAD – The budget for the Parliament of Curaçao is set to rise by over 8 million guilders in 2026, increasing from 21.9 million to 29.9 million guilders. A substantial portion of this increase—7.5 million guilders—is earmarked for the construction of a new Parliament building.
The proposal still requires debate and approval by Parliament.
During the review of the draft budget, PNP Member of Parliament Gwendell Mercelina raised questions regarding the housing plans of independent MP and Vice Chair of the New Building Committee, Zita Jesus-Leito. She clarified that her attendance at a recent presentation on the plans was purely coincidental and emphasized that no final decisions have been made yet.
