Curaçao Parliament Requests Formal Response from Prime Minister Pisas on IPKO Agreements

WILLEMSTAD - The Parliament of Curaçao has formally requested Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas to respond to the agreements made at the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) held in The Hague at the end of September. The request is outlined in a letter dated October 24, issued by Parliament Chairperson Fergino Brownbill.

The document lists several key topics discussed among the parliaments of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and the Netherlands, including geopolitical security in the Caribbean region, Kingdom cooperation, consensus kingdom laws, education, and demographic developments.

Security and Kingdom Cooperation

The delegations expressed concern over security in the Caribbean, noting that the region’s geopolitical situation remains fragile. They agreed that during the next IPKO session, a technical briefing should be provided to further examine security issues affecting the islands.

Additionally, the parliaments asked their respective governments to respond to the spontaneous advisory opinion issued by the Council of State on the 70th anniversary of the Kingdom Charter (Statuut). The advisory calls for stronger cooperation, improved governance, and greater equality within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The response from the Curaçao government to these recommendations is still pending, according to Brownbill’s letter.
