WILLEMSTAD – The Parliament of Curaçao has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the people of the Dominican Republic following a tragic incident in Santo Domingo, where part of a club's roof collapsed, leaving 113 people dead and nearly 300 injured.
Among the victims are well-known politicians and top athletes, including Gilbert Ricardo, who sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Members of Parliament highlighted the close ties between Curaçao and the Dominican Republic and extended their sympathy to the victims and their families. Special wishes for a swift recovery were also directed to Ricardo.
Several parliamentarians used the moment to raise concerns about public safety in Curaçao, pointing out that the tragedy should serve as a warning. They stressed the need for inspections and maintenance of older buildings on the island that could pose risks to the public.
