Local | By Press release June 6, 2024

THE HAGUE - A delegation from the Parliament of Curaçao participated in a Tripartite meeting with Aruba and Sint Maarten, where they exchanged information and viewpoints on various topics concerning the different countries.

Following the official opening of the Tripartite meeting, the delegations reviewed the agreements made in the previous meeting. Today, they reached concrete agreements related to the ‘dispute regulation.’ All delegations committed to ensuring that by the end of June 2024, there will be an agreement among the Parliaments of Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten to continue with the ‘dispute regulation’ proposed by Aruba, paving the way for the official submission of the concept.

Each Tripartite meeting focuses on predetermined advanced topics, including today's discussions. One of the agenda topics was healthcare, with an emphasis on mental health services (GGZ) and care for the elderly. Each delegation shared their actions to date, the challenges they face, and exchanged information on various possibilities.

The second agenda point discussed was education, focusing on the challenges faced by students, potential solutions, and collaboration between Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten.

For the next point of the Tripartite meeting, the 'Kingdom Act,' the delegations received a presentation from Curaçao officials. They explained the ongoing process related to the approval of the treaty for the protection of personal information.

The Tripartite meeting concluded with a discussion on Kingdom funds related to climate change.

It was agreed that the Parliaments of Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten will make an inventory of the current state of climate issues in their countries. During the next IPKO, which will take place in Aruba, they will receive a presentation from experts on the topic. Based on this, a strategy will be developed to access Kingdom funds to address the challenges of climate change.
