WILLEMSTAD - A delegation from the Curaçao Parliament is currently participating in a Tripartite meeting between Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten, taking place on October 23 and 24, 2023, in Sint Maarten.
During this gathering, the delegations from the Parliaments of Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten come together to exchange information and viewpoints on various topics of concern to the different countries.
Each Tripartite meeting sets the agenda for discussions to address specific topics. For this particular meeting, the Tripartite has placed the following items on the agenda: agreements from the previous Tripartite, progress on a Dispute Settlement Mechanism concept, connectivity between the countries within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, addressing democratic deficits related to the use of Consensus Kingdom Laws as a means of control, and the restructuring of tax systems based on the Country Packages (landspaketten).
Before the official opening of the Tripartite, the leaders of the delegations from Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten will meet with a delegation from the Surinamese Parliament in a so-called "Contact Plan Presidium Meeting." During this meeting, the four delegations will establish an agenda for the upcoming parliamentary contacts between the countries of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Suriname. The last time such a contact meeting occurred was in 2019.
