Curaçao Outpaces Caribbean Tourism Growth as Regional Demand Slows

Local, Tourism, | By Correspondent June 15, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao continues to strengthen its position in the Caribbean tourism market, recording growth that significantly outperformed the regional average despite a slowdown in overall tourism demand across the region.

According to the Caribbean Travel Trends 2026 report by Amadeus and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA), overseas travel demand to the Caribbean increased by just 1 percent between April 2025 and March 2026, a sharp deceleration compared to previous years. However, Curaçao managed to achieve a 4 percent increase in tourist arrivals during the same period.

The report ranks Curaçao among the Caribbean's top-performing destinations, placing the island ninth among destinations showing the strongest growth. The island accounted for 2.3 percent of all overseas tourist arrivals to the Caribbean while growing four times faster than the regional average.

Researchers note that Caribbean tourism is entering a new phase in which rapid post-pandemic growth is giving way to more moderate expansion. As a result, destinations are increasingly competing for market share through targeted marketing, improved connectivity, and diversification of visitor markets.

The report highlights Latin America as one of the fastest-growing source markets for Caribbean tourism. Countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and Colombia recorded double-digit growth in travel to the region, suggesting significant opportunities for destinations that successfully position themselves in those markets.

For Curaçao, which has invested heavily in strengthening air connections with Colombia, Brazil, and other Latin American countries in recent years, the findings may validate current tourism strategies aimed at reducing dependence on traditional North American and European markets.

The report also points to the importance of understanding traveler behavior and targeting specific visitor segments. Caribbean destinations that effectively align their marketing campaigns with traveler preferences are expected to perform better in an increasingly competitive environment.

With overall Caribbean tourism growth slowing to just one percent, Curaçao's four percent increase suggests the island continues to gain market share and remains one of the region's stronger-performing destinations heading into 2026.
