Local | By Correspondent August 6, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Museum invites art enthusiasts to the opening of two new exhibitions: "Pure Passion" and "My Hero." These exhibitions promise to offer a unique insight into the passion and creativity of both local and international artists.

Pure Passion

On Thursday, August 15, at 7:00 PM, the exhibition "Pure Passion" will open. This retrospective honors the late artist Marjon Wegman, who passed away last year. Together with her artistic partner, Rien Te Hennepe, Marjon created a wealth of artworks that reflect a deep love for the nature of Curaçao. Visitors can enjoy her colorful mosaics, painted sea grape leaves, and exclusive ceramic pieces.

Rien Te Hennepe also contributes to this exhibition with his impressive sculptures made from various sizes of 'Tafelberg' stones. His works always reveal a hidden surprise that he brings out from the stone. "Pure Passion" showcases the shared passion for art of this dynamic duo and promises to be an emotionally and visually rich experience.

My Hero

On Saturday, August 17, at 6:00 PM, the exhibition "My Hero" will open, featuring art quilts created by six talented women under the guidance of Maria Cijntje. This exhibition follows the Qritical exhibition, which commemorated the 161st anniversary of the abolition of slavery.

The participating artists, Nelly Rosa, Alejandra Cijntje, Josée Thissen, Arindah Thissen, Vesuhely Americaan, and Yvorona Lane, have been working on their quilts every Saturday throughout the summer. Each piece tells a personal story of resilience, creativity, and perseverance. "My Hero" encourages visitors to recognize and appreciate the heroes close to home.

Both exhibitions offer a unique opportunity to explore the diversity and depth of the Curaçaoan art community. The Curaçao Museum warmly invites everyone to attend these special events and participate in the celebration of art and culture.
