WILLEMSTAD - In a bid to attract young professionals to government positions, Curaçao's Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania, has launched a campaign offering a range of enticing incentives. Promoting these opportunities through social media, particularly Facebook, Silvania is calling on young people to join the public sector, promising benefits such as student loan forgiveness, housing subsidies, and even a car allowance.
According to Silvania, there are currently 240 vacancies within the Curaçao government. He is urging young individuals to take advantage of these opportunities, stating, “Visit the job fair!” He emphasizes the attractive financial benefits available to those who choose a career in government, which include:
A cancellation of up to 50,000 guilders in student debt for those who join the government workforce.
A six-month housing subsidy to assist with rental costs.
An advance of 20,000 guilders to help purchase a car.
These offers are part of an initiative aimed at attracting young, skilled professionals to work in the public sector, with the goal of strengthening the island’s government institutions.
When asked whether these promises had been officially approved and formalized, Silvania referred to a decision made by the Council of Ministers earlier this month. However, he did not provide a specific official document to substantiate the claims at the time.
The proposal, which is still under consideration, reflects an ambitious effort to address public sector staffing shortages by making government employment more attractive to the youth.
