Curaçao military supports Curaçao Police Force

Local | By Correspondent January 10, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Militia (CurMil) has provided support to the Curaçao Police Force (KPC) during an operation called 'Ta basta awor' in recent times, as announced by the Caribbean Defense Area in a press release.

The operations focused on reducing firearm-related crimes and enhancing safety on the island. Military personnel and police officers conducted patrols, set up mobile checkpoints, and implemented 'blue light prevention' to increase visibility on the streets under the authority of the Public Prosecution Service.

Various weapons and drugs were seized during the checks, and fines were imposed, with KPC also impounding vehicles. Over 27 evenings and nights, 12 Curaçao military personnel were deployed each night, always in collaboration with the KPC. It's important to note that Curaçao military personnel do not have investigative powers.

This support initiative took place from December 11 to January 7.
