WILLEMSTAD - The Meteorological Service of Curaçao (Meteo) has announced the acquisition of a new automated meteorological system to improve the safety and efficiency of air traffic. The service disclosed this development in a press release on Friday.
The advanced system, supplied by the Finnish company Vaisala, will provide critical information about severe weather conditions. "Weather phenomena such as wind and temperature significantly impact takeoffs, landings, and daily airport operations," Meteo stated.
To ensure the system met their stringent requirements, members of Meteo's management team traveled to Finland for a "Factory Acceptance Test" in collaboration with Vaisala. The results of these tests were subsequently evaluated and deemed successful.
The installation of the system is scheduled for January 2025. Technicians from Vaisala will travel to Curaçao to oversee and complete the setup.
This new equipment is expected to enhance the accuracy of weather forecasts and play a vital role in maintaining safe and efficient aviation operations in the region.
