Curaçao Medical Center Specialists Submit Vote of No Confidence in Hospital Board

Local | By Correspondent April 9, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Around eighty specialists at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) have officially lost confidence in the hospital’s Board of Directors. The medical professionals have submitted a motion of no confidence due to serious concerns about the quality and continuity of healthcare at the facility.

Outgoing Minister of Health, Environment, and Nature, Javier Silvania (MFK), has stated that the Health Inspectorate has not been informed about this situation, despite its potential impact on both patients and healthcare services.

The doctors feel excluded from key decisions and claim they are barely involved in the hospital's policy-making. Communication with the Board has also been described as difficult, and there is frustration over the lack of input from the medical staff council. Moreover, requests for exemptions – such as for allowing foreign specialists to work – are reportedly being delayed and processed inefficiently. Tensions between the specialists and the hospital's administration have been building for some time.

This growing unrest highlights deeper concerns within the medical community about the governance of CMC and the potential effects on patient care.
