WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has announced that all scheduled surgeries for patients with flu symptoms should be postponed. This measure has been taken to protect the health of patients as COVID-19 and flu numbers are on the rise again.
The hospital urges patients who are scheduled for surgery and are experiencing symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sneezing, chest pain, sore throat, joint pain, or fever to contact their treating physician. They should also inform the planning department at the CMC so that a new appointment can be scheduled.
The Curaçao Medical Center reassures that the situation is under control. Currently, eighteen patients with influenza and seven patients with COVID-19 are admitted to the hospital. It is important to note that most of these patients have underlying conditions and require additional treatment, according to the CMC.
To maintain control over the current situation, the CMC is implementing protocols similar to those during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes treating patients with influenza or COVID-19 in separate, isolated spaces.
