Curaçao Medical Center launches broad improvement program to strengthen access and financial sustainability

| By Correspondent February 24, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Medical Center has started a wide-ranging improvement program aimed at strengthening accessibility, planning, and the hospital’s long-term financial sustainability. This was reported by the evening newspaper Amigoe.

According to CMC, the growing and increasingly complex demand for healthcare is placing significant pressure on the organization. As a result, there is a greater need for improved coordination and more stable core processes to ensure that care can continue to be delivered efficiently and safely.

A recent audit of the operating rooms forms the basis for a series of measures designed to structurally improve planning, capacity management, and waiting times. In addition, the hospital is working to improve telephone accessibility and strengthen internal coordination between departments.

CMC also stresses that closer cooperation with general practitioners, health insurers, and other partners within the healthcare chain is essential to achieving lasting improvements. This collaboration is seen as particularly important in the areas of prevention and the management of chronic conditions, where better coordination outside the hospital setting can reduce pressure on specialized care.

The hospital states that its new course is built on clear prioritization, stronger leadership, and sustainable process improvements, with the overarching goal of safeguarding the quality and safety of care for patients on Curaçao.
