WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality and accessible healthcare to the Curaçao community, according to a recent press release from the hospital.
The CMC aims to reduce waiting times, improve appointment availability, and enhance communication with general practitioners, all while keeping the needs of patients and their families at the forefront. Over the past years, the hospital’s management has implemented organizational improvements and restructuring efforts, which have occasionally led to tensions, the statement acknowledged.
One sensitive issue highlighted by CMC concerns the enforcement of the Top Income Norm Act (LNT Act), effective since 2023, which caps the salaries of medical specialists. Despite legal attempts to secure exemptions, the courts have ruled that the law applies without exception.
While recognizing the significant impact this has on affected specialists, CMC’s management stressed that the hospital must comply with the legal framework. The financial adjustments are therefore not a choice but a legal obligation.
Despite these challenges, CMC emphasized its ongoing dedication to modernizing the hospital and enhancing the quality of care.
