Curaçao lawmaker seeks clarity on current government status

WILLEMSTAD - Parliament member Ana Maria Pauletta of the opposition party PAR has called for clarity regarding the type of government currently in place in Curaçao. She made this appeal through a statement on Facebook, emphasizing the need for the Governor, Lucille George-Wout, to clarify whether Curaçao is operating under a new cabinet (Pisas-3), a caretaker cabinet, or an interim cabinet.

Pauletta highlighted that each type of cabinet has distinct roles and responsibilities. She stressed that if the current government is a caretaker or interim cabinet, new elections must be organized. “I believe we, as a country, need to accept the change without questioning what has specifically changed,” Pauletta stated.

In addition, Pauletta expressed concern over the swift departure of the PNP ministers. She seeks to understand whether their departure was requested or if it was a voluntary decision. Furthermore, the lawmaker wants to know if Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas (MFK) has clarified the government’s direction and whether the coalition agreement has been altered with the addition of three new ministers.

The Pisas-2 government fell a week ago after the MFK and PNP decided to part ways, with the MFK losing confidence in the PNP. The political party KEM and independent parliament member Zita Jesus-Leito have pledged their support to the Pisas administration.
