WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao is positioning itself as a digital hub for the Caribbean with the launch of an advanced data center project at Blue NAP Americas. During a press conference titled “First Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Platform in the Caribbean,” Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning Charles Cooper (MFK) announced that the government, in partnership with Blue NAP Americas, will introduce a platform offering GPU processing power for artificial intelligence applications.
The government is investing $2 million in the platform and is preparing an additional $25 million investment in a subsea fiber-optic cable. This infrastructure aims to make Curaçao competitive with U.S. data centers, where GPU processing typically costs $5 to $6 per hour. In Curaçao, the service will be offered at just $3 per hour.
Strategic Advantage and Regional Reach
The project leverages Curaçao’s strategic location outside the hurricane belt, targeting an estimated 70 million potential users and businesses across the Caribbean and Latin America.
According to Blue NAP Americas director Giovanni King, the initiative is also designed to benefit the local population. Beyond supporting AI applications in healthcare and education, the project will provide 100 free GPU hours for local use.
Push for Efficiency
At the same time, the government has recommended the merger of the Core data center and Blue NAP Americas into a single, more efficient entity, consolidating resources to strengthen Curaçao’s digital infrastructure.
With this project, Curaçao aims not only to become a regional leader in AI technology but also to create new opportunities for innovation, education, and economic growth.
