WILLEMSTAD - On December 10, Curaçao’s Junior boxing delegation departed for Venezuela to compete in the finals of the 5th edition of the Angostura Belt tournament, followed by two additional boxing exchanges in Caracas. Representing Curaçao are athletes Yadiel Martes (36 kg), Deshaun Bernadina (38 kg), Shermilon Susana (54 kg), and Skye Prinssen (56 kg), accompanied by coaches Joram Schenk, Yohan León, and Coregelino Djaoen.

The initiative is part of a structured, long-term program to develop boxing talent on the island, spearheaded by Supreme Boxing Centre in collaboration with CuraBox and its president, Edwin Baas. According to Djaoen, this effort is yielding promising results in international competitions, showcasing the potential of Curaçaoan boxers on the global stage.

The traveling athletes are products of the Edukando un Kampion project, which focuses on nurturing talent in the sport's lower categories. This week, each boxer is set to compete in three bouts, with high hopes for positive outcomes that will further highlight Curaçao’s growing presence in the boxing world.

Djaoen expressed his gratitude to supporters of the initiative, emphasizing the importance of continued investment in sports development across all disciplines in Curaçao. “These young athletes represent our nation’s future, and their success is a testament to the dedication and collaboration within our sports community,” he stated.

The Curaçao boxing delegation aims to return home with significant achievements, reinforcing their nation’s commitment to fostering a thriving sporting culture.
